Production Manager - Modular Manufacturing

Hours of work 8.30am - 4.30pm

The Company

This is an innovative and dynamic modular housing business that is developing a name in the fast emerging off site construction industry producing factory built modular homes for the UK private housing market with a plan to be manufacturing 2000 homes a year in the next 5 years this is a business that is going places.

The Role

Main objective of post to oversee the entire Production Manufacturing process including the associated labour resourcing and planning. The Production Manager will also be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of Production KPIs and overseeing production planning activities including managing the Master Production Schedule and ensuring it translates into effective operational plans.

The Production Manager is responsible forecasting manufacturing capacities and direct resources through to the release of manufacturing orders and reporting on performance against plan as to identify when demand/supply gaps develop and put robust plans in place to mitigate any potential risk.

The Production Manager also holds responsibility for managing demands and predict material, production and resource constraints that may affect the plan and work with the relevant functions to minimise the impact and optimise factory output.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure production activities are effectively planned with a view to maximising production efficiency, minimising waste whilst aiming at 100% customer service.
  • Forecasting manufacturing capabilities and direct associated resources through to the release of manufacturing orders and reporting on performance against plan.
  • Designing short, medium- and long-term production plans and objectives
  • Implement and monitor Production KPIs.
  • Ensuring work carried out is timely in respect of delivery commitments.
  • Ensuring all planning and scheduling is carried out in accordance to the company quality systems.
  • Reviewing production related and planning processes and systems.
  • Maintain production forecast data to aid effective forward material purchasing.
  • Identify potential demand/supply gaps and develop robust plans to mitigate any potential risk.
  • Responsible Labour/capacity planning.
  • Responsible for scheduling daily plans for workforce, including sub-contractors to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing in line with production plans.
  • Build and improve/implement production planning processes.
  • Manage the movement of materials as required through the planning process.
  • Conduct and report statistical analysis of production and demand data on a weekly basis.
  • Identify, communicate and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Identify cost reduction, quality and service improvement opportunities and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Standardise and document processes for the Department.
  • Challenge existing practices and identify best practice.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement across the business.
  • Liaise with internal contacts and external suppliers to improve manufacturing operations.
  • Responsible for the overall quality of product
  • Essential / Desirable

    Manufacturing / Production Management qualification or relevant Qualified in Lean Manufacturing, six sigma, Kaizen

    Experience

  • Strong experience of production planning and scheduling within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of labour and material cost analysis
  • Experience of route cause analysis processes and techniques
  • Excellent IT Skills - in particular Excel
  • Worked within a modular construction/manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge

  • Knowledge of managing a manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of planning systems
  • Knowledge of supply chain
  • Ability to interpret drawings and take off quantities
  • Knowledge of construction material and process
  • Strong IT knowledge Excel
  • Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan and organise workloads in a pressured environment
  • Analytical skills to present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to enforce standards and process
  • Ability to maintain focus during periods of high pressure
