Quantity Surveyor - Project Based
Project location: Yorkshire

Our client is looking to add to their very talented team, with a Quantity Surveyor. You will be involved in the successful commercial delivery of projects from £5m to £25m in the Care Home or High Rise Residential sectors.
The Opportunity and Role
My client is looking for a hands-on Quantity Surveyor with Project experience up to a minimum of £10m. The role is offered on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for assisting with all financial aspects of projects working closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and/or Project Director. You will deliver desired margin return utilising high standards of commercial acumen, reporting into the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager.
Responsibilities - to assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager in the following:
- Develop and maintain close relationships with client, consultants and subcontractors to continuously improve the customer experience and support future repeat and negotiated business
- Attend tender presentations for new projects, contribute, lead commercially and present
- During proposal stage, prepare the budget and prelims build up, obtain and vet trade contractor bids, compile the company information section for the proposal document and collate the overall document
- Able to develop an initial concept budget and prepare a detailed cost plan for the Project Manager to agree with the client
- Prepare trade contractor bid list in conjunction with the Project Manager and obtain approval via team meetings
- Confirm project insurance arrangements
- Able to prepare and monitor bid package tender schedule and report against the cost plan where required
- Advise client on contract procurement routes available
- Agree 2nd stage lump sum tenders and GMP's
- Prepare and monitor Subcontract Procurement Schedule, compile trade contract bid documents and carry out tender analysis and issue purchase orders
- Place orders and instruct trade contractors. (Including compiling subcontracts/works contacts/trade contracts)
- Prepare financial section of project report
- Handle receipt and distribution of drawings and other relevant information and maintain control
- Attend design team meetings and trade contractor meetings
- Manage change orders in conjunction with the Site/Project Manager
- Prepare, submit and agree monthly costs reports, collating information from other Project/Assistant surveyors as necessary
- Instruct accounts to invoice clients
- Instruct accounts to pay subcontracts and suppliers
- Prepare, submit and agree periodic valuations for work completed to date with trade contractors and the client
- Instruct accounts to invoice clients and to pay subcontractors and suppliers
- Prepare 'rolling' final account throughout project and agree at PC
- Close out financial account and retention releases
- Prepare final account reconciliation (CVR), create regular budget and price updates, update computerised cost control system and prepare the monthly cost and progress report for the Directors responsible
- Provide feedback to trade contractors on completion
- Prepare monthly cost reports including any relevant information provided by Project/Assistant surveyors
- Internal reporting via billing monitors, MCR's and interim CVR's
- To ensure HSQE and quality standards, operating processes, company policies, ISO accreditations and all legislative requirements are understood, always implemented and adhered to
The Person
You will:
- Be degree qualified or NVQ, Btec or Higher National equivalent
- Have 5 years full time experience in a surveying role
- Possess a good Understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract & Contract law
- Possess a good knowledge and understanding of Word and Excel packages
- Have good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of delivering high rise residential projects or other major construction projects of around £20m or above
