Objective:
As Technical Manager, you will be responsible for managing planning, engineering and technical activities for site based projects. You will work within the design team and manage internal and external teams across design and construction of multiple projects to ensure the design is coordinated to meet programme, costs and customer/client requirements.
You will work with the work winning and project teams to define and implement robust auditable processes for site validation and development from initial leads through preconstruction, construction and handover.
The role will be office based, however you will be required to travel to meet design teams, monitor projects and visit sites.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the development engineering delivery team, including development engineers, development technical coordinators, and town planning.
- Review technical information and reports at potential new land /site appraisal stage and prepare feasibility engineering designs.
- Obtain fee quotations from specialist consultants for all engineering designs and technical requirements.
- Procure Engineering Designs, Surveys, utilities, Site Investigation, Demolition, Asbestos, Grouting and Flood Risk Information.
- Review external consultants engineering designs/details with a view to value engineer where possible to ensure the most cost effective solutions.
- Attend design meetings with highways/water authorities to determine local authorities requirements.
- Ensure the timely distribution of all relevant drawings and technical information to Construction, Sales and Commercial departments to ensure production targets and budgets are achieved in accordance with the overall build programme.
- Coordinate consultants for the production of engineering drawings to achieve technical approvals from the local authorities.
- Oversee the checking and completion of section 220, section 38, section 278, section 185, and section 104 agreements.
- Work in conjunction with our external legal teams to ensure all legal agreements including section agreements and deed of easements are completed in a timely manner
- Attend/Chair and actively participate in all pre-start meetings, progress site meetings and other meetings as required to review and assess progress and provide constructive and frequent feedback on project performance.
- Provide on-going technical support and guidance to other internal departments and colleagues to ensure that any remediation works on site are cost effective and on programme.
- Share knowledge and assist other staff members in carrying out their duties.
- As part of the Technical Department's role in CDM prepare and issue in association with other relevant departments information in line with the Company's Health and safety Policies for each development.
- Link between the design and construction department on engineering matters.
- Use AutoCAD / REVIT to produce engineering plans.
- Contributing to planning and other regulatory application procedures.
- Be actively involved in the close out of planning conditions
- Liaising with appropriate authorities.
- Attending site meetings, site visits and office meetings.
- Chair design meetings - internal & external
- Ensure changes in design are communicated to the team members and leadership team
- Maintain responsibility for the storing, filing and archiving of documents relevant to the design tasks undertaken by yourself or your team via BIM.
Qualifications
HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering
Knowledge & Experience
- Previous experience having worked on Residential projects essential. Volume Housebuilding experience preferred.
- Road & Infrastructure design for residential projects including statutory and warranty provider requirements.
- Drainage design experience.
- Experience in dealing with s278, s38,s104, s106 agreements.
- A broad understanding of civil, structural and architectural aspects of residential projects.
- Experience of NHBS approvals preferred.
- Experience managing discipline and project teams required.
Skills
- Proficiency using AutoCAD. REVIT would also be beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills.
