The Opportunity

Our client requires a Project Director to join their Datacentre business to deliver their world class projects. This is a construction business with a turnover in the billions. You would be joining their division which delivers their most technically complex engineering led projects.

This is a privately-owned company with strong financial resilience and a growing order book who are specifically targeting growth in the Data Centre sector.

The Role

You will deliver a quality of service and product to the client and their customer in line with project goals. Leading the building and services engineering design/procurement/construction and installation process to minimise risks associated with this to the project and to the company.

The team you'll be joining integrates the skills from the client, main contractor and subcontractors to deliver the projects as partners opposed to the traditional general contracting model. You will be involved in winning work, effective resourcing, project set up & close out, H&S, quality, risk management and people management.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will be responsible and accountable for working in a team environment, providing support and project direction to ensure that win of prospects and opportunities in accordance with the cost and schedule requirements that lead to quality contracts for the business.
  • You will be responsible and accountable for providing project direction to ensure the safe, successful, cost efficient and timely delivery of a variable number of projects at any time, enabling and providing as necessary, effective risk management and problem resolution.
  • Take full responsible for all aspects of project, including development, engineering & design, supply chain & subcontracting, fabrication, construction, MEP and commissioning.
  • You will develop, manage, and provide personal input to client, professional and supplier relationships for assigned prospects, opportunities, and projects.
  • You will work with business leadership to ensure adequate resources for the assigned projects, ensuring appropriate levels of skill, especially for design and engineering, facilitating skills transference with the assigned project team staff to develop their recruitment, selection and resourcing capability.
  • Provide guidance and to personally manage, as appropriate, risk and client and professional expectations through early identification of issues from project reporting, project meetings and other inputs.
  • You will proactively set health & safety standards and culture for all assigned projects and to take appropriate action where necessary to reduce safety risk.
  • You will have experience with winning work and help identify and develop long term relationships to grow the business unit.
  • You will be part of effective resourcing, setting up projects and closing them out.
  • Ensuring best health & safety practice along with quality project controls and reporting and effective risk management.
  • Required skills and experience

  • Previous DC delivery experience for a Global Client - desirable although not essential - strong construction delivery background at senior level required as a minimum.
  • Previous experience of leading a bid, driving daily tender activities, identify Value Engineering opportunities, establish and agree bid list, writing content, building the programme, internal presentation collation, tender submission and post tender engagement with the client, tracking key actions and bid clarification etc.
  • Happy to roll up sleeves and get involved in the 'nitty gritty' on the basis that the full team isn't established as yet certainly during the PQQ/Tender process.
  • Supply chain engagement - someone happy to discuss regularly at a senior level with the identified supply chain and ensure that they are aware of the targets we need to meet.
  • Team leadership and someone who sets the culture for engagement, communication, safety performance and improvement, quality etc and very competent at getting the message across to a large number of people via presentations and communication sessions.
  • Commercial acumen - takes responsibility and ownership with the commercial lead for profit plan delivery for the project.
  • Identifies and manages risks and opportunities. Is able to present a risk along with required mitigations.
  • You will have/be:

  • Ability to understand the wider picture whilst devoting attention to detail
  • Proactive, diligent, able and willing to think ahead
  • Commercial awareness: understanding and ability to make profit whilst retaining relationships and company values
  • Quality driven; demonstrates attitude and experience of delivery projects based on quality, attention to detail and client satisfaction.
  • Driven by high standards and has a proven record in delivering projects of various sizes and effective leadership skills
  • Show understanding and capability of resolving complex issues and have excellent negotiating skills
  • Be an accomplished presenter who has experience of creating and leading skilled teams who win business and are delivery and client motivated.
  • Experience developing opportunities and proposals and winning projects.
  • Complete Design, Supply, Fabrication and Delivery of several projects
  • Experience in all forms of contract
  • Strong CSA or MEP background (or both)
