A rare opportunity to build and lead a brand-new in-house Landscape Architecture function for one of the UK’s leading specialist care home developers.

Recruit Build is working with a highly successful and rapidly growing developer that designs and delivers purpose-built care developments across the UK.

Landscape design is currently delivered through external consultants, but as the development pipeline continues to grow, the business is now bringing this expertise in-house for the first time.

This creates an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Senior Landscape Architect to shape the function from the outset, influence projects at an early stage and, in time, build and develop a team around them.

The Role

Working as part of the wider in-house Design and Development team, you will become the business’s lead Landscape Architect and take responsibility for landscape design across a substantial pipeline of new developments.

Your role will include:

• Leading landscape design across new development projects
• Becoming involved at an early stage alongside the in-house land and architectural design teams
• Developing landscape strategies and design solutions for potential and live development sites
• Preparing landscape proposals to support planning applications
• Working closely with the in-house architectural designers, land team and wider supporting teams throughout the development process
• Managing and coordinating external landscape consultants where required
• Ensuring landscape design enhances the setting, character and usability of each development
• Building and developing the in-house Landscape Architecture function
• Mentoring and managing more junior team members as the department grows

The Person

We are looking for an experienced Landscape Architect who is comfortable taking ownership of projects and has the confidence to establish and develop a new function within a fast-paced commercial environment.

You are likely to be operating at Senior Landscape Architect or Associate level and will have:

• Strong experience delivering landscape design across a range of development projects
• Experience taking schemes from early concept and planning through the development process
• Strong design, presentation and communication skills
• Experience working closely with multidisciplinary design and development teams
• The ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for multiple projects
• Experience mentoring, managing or supporting junior team members
• A commercial and practical approach to landscape design
• Experience within care, retirement living or other accommodation-led developments would be particularly relevant, although candidates from broader residential, commercial or mixed-development backgrounds are equally encouraged to apply.
