Senior Technical Manager
Based at Head Office - Milton Keynes(visiting projects as required by the role).
Position Reports to: Strategic Projects Director (day to day) and Group Technical Director
This is an opportunity for an experienced Technical Manager to join the Strategic Projects team of a well established and highly successful national construction business. The Strategic Projects team delivers the most technically complex / mission critical projects and is seeking to strengthen it's divisional team.
Job Summary
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Pre-construction
* Have active participation in tendering activity.
* Provide technical input into tenders and pre-construction agreements.
* Engage with designers and specialist sub-contractors.
* Review design options for compliance, quality, buildability, safety and best value.
* Establish design options for commercial betterment.
* Seek programme betterment through alternative design options.
* Review professional appointments, scope of services and fees.
* Establish design programme and deliverables.
* Compile fee schedules.
* Raise tender queries and seek resolution to issues.
* Attend tender meetings and interviews representing the Group as a senior bid team member.
* Contribute to risk and opportunity scheduling.
* Technical compliance checking of submissions and quote from supply chain.
* Write Contractor's Proposals, clarifications and pricing notes.
* Participate in the close out of post tender queries and issues.
* Assist with contract structure, scope and documentation.
* Chair design team meetings for pre-construction agreements.
Project Delivery
* Visiting and supporting role.
* Lead technical handover to project team.
* Ensure tender design strategy is followed and knowledge is transferred.
* Ascertain project design management resource requirements.
* Design management recruitment.
* Accountable for the design management, progress and delivery.
* Attend initial design meetings/workshops.
* Ensure appointments, scopes and design responsibilities are clear and understood.
* Ensure design programme and deliverables are established and monitored.
* Ensure design management delivered in accordance with company procedures.
* Establish relationships with designers and key specialist contractors.
* Ensure effective communication between designers and contractors.
* Conflict resolution.
* Contribute to the continual improvement of company processes and procedures.
