Position - Design Manager
Location - Coventry and Midlands
The Opportunity
My client who is an award winning Construction and Development business is looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager with a minimum of 7 years post grad experience. The main purpose of the role is to ensure successful delivery of key regional projects in the student accommodation, PRS and Care sectors. You will play a key role on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities, to control and interrogate the activities of external design consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of the design process during the pre-construction and as required, the construction phase.
Manage the process of fully investigating value engineering and value creation opportunities.
Carry out the interrogation of enquiry documents, in the form of an Employer's Requirements.
Produce Contractor's Proposal documents in liaison with other internal departments.
Manage the design process via external consultants.
Drive innovative and cost-effective solutions into the design.
Progress design issues within a strict timescale & ensure designer meet information delivery dates.
Review Sub contractor design proposals.
Verify & control status of consultants and sub-contractors' drawings and specifications & maintain registers.
Ensure the consultant scope of services, responsibilities and fees are agreed.
Facilitate the completion of a project risk register.
Attend tender launch /tender adjudication and launch meetings as required.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Commercial awareness.
Understand different Client procurement routes.
Some experience of site/contract procedures would be an advantage.
Ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads.
Some understanding of Building Regulations and Planning Permission procedures.
Design management experience of high-rise residential projects (preferable but not essential)
A minimum of 7 years' experience post grad.
