Position - Assistant Design Manager
Location - West Midlands
The Opportunity
My client who is an award-winning development and contracting business is looking to recruit a talented Assistant Design Manager with a minimum of 2 years post grad experience. The main purpose of the role is to assist the Design Managers to co-ordinate and integrate the activities of our external design consultants. Assist on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities, to control and interrogate the activities of external design consultants.
Key Responsibilities - to assist in the following:
- Assist in the management of the design process during the pre-construction and as required, the construction phase.
- Assist in the process of fully investigating value engineering and value creation opportunities.
- Assist in the interrogation of enquiry documents, in the form of an Employer's Requirements.
- Assist in the production of a Contractor's Proposal document in liaison with other internal departments.
- Assist in the management of the design process via external consultants.
- Drive innovative and cost-effective solutions into the design.
- Progress design issues within a strict timescale & ensure designer meet information delivery dates.
- Review Sub contractor design proposals.
- Verify & control status of consultants and sub-contractors' drawings and specifications & maintain registers.
- Ensure the consultant scope of services, responsibilities and fees are agreed.
- Facilitate the completion of a project risk register.
- Attend tender launch /tender adjudication and launch meetings as required.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Commercial awareness.
- Understand different Client procurement routes.
- Some experience of site/contract procedures would be an advantage.
- Ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads.
- Some understanding of Building Regulations and Planning Permission procedures.
- Design management experience of high-rise residential projects (preferable but not essential)
- A minimum of 2 years' experience post grad.
- Would suit Technical Coordinator, Design Coordinator etc.
