Description

A great opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Design Manager / Design Coordinator to join a well-established and highly regarded main contractor based from its Wakefield office.

The business has a strong pipeline of work across Yorkshire and the wider region, delivering a varied portfolio of commercial, industrial, education and public-sector projects.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in Design Management, working alongside experienced construction and design professionals on projects from pre-construction through to delivery.

The Role

You’ll play a key part in coordinating the design process, ensuring information is delivered accurately, on time and in a format that works for the construction team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating design information across live and pre-construction projects
  • Managing architects, consultants and specialist subcontractor design
  • Identifying design gaps, risks and buildability issues
  • Chairing and attending Design Team Meetings
  • Managing design programmes and information release schedules
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Supporting value engineering and practical buildability solutions
  • Coordinating consultant appointments, scopes and responsibility matrices
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, Commercial teams and clients
  • Ensuring the design supports safe, efficient and profitable project delivery

Who Are We Looking For?

This role would be particularly suitable for someone already working as a Design Coordinator or Assistant Design Manager who is looking to take the next step in their career.

Alternatively, it could be an excellent opportunity for an Architectural Assistant – Part 2, or someone from an architectural background, who is considering a change in career path and would like to move into contractor-side Design Management.

You should have:

  • Experience within construction or architectural design
  • A good understanding of the design and construction process
  • Strong coordination and communication skills
  • The confidence to work with consultants, subcontractors and project teams
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to design

You don’t need to be the finished article. What’s more important is a strong technical grounding, good communication skills and the ambition to develop into a fully-fledged Design Manager.

What’s On Offer?

  • Salary of £35,000 – £40,000
  • Car allowance
  • Comprehensive company benefits package
  • Varied and technically interesting projects
  • Excellent career progression
  • The opportunity to develop within an established regional contractor with a strong forward workload

If you’re currently working as a Design Coordinator or within an architectural role and want to explore a move into Design Management, this is an opportunity well worth looking at.
