Reporting to: Operations Director
The Opportunity
We're recruiting for a Design Manager with the strategic mind and drive to deliver the best for our client's customers and their business. Overseeing the Design process, you'll exemplify the business's commitment to Health & Safety, and ensuring quality and best practice will be second nature to you. Based in their Sheffield office, you'll manage the Design process of construction projects ranging £1 million to £10 million across Yorkshire and East Midlands.

The Role
To provide Design Management support to the Regional business. To manage the flow of design information, conduct design-gap reviews, develop value engineering proposals and to rsik-manage the design development process. To work with the project teams, clients, designers and subcontractors to ensure optimal design solutions are employed. To work with these same parties to ensure the timely flow of information and that this information is complete, of a good quality and reflects our contractual obligations. To ensure that there is sufficient regional resource to adequately cover our requirements. To deliver a design and sequence that can be delivered safely and maximise our profit opportunities. To be aware and foster the possibility of repeat business.
Duties:-
- Liaise with the customer, clients and design team.
- Design review
- Design gap analysis
- Develop IRS
- Consultant appointments including:
- Scope of services
- Matrix of responsibilities
- IRS
- To attend and chair Design Team Meetings to ensure the timely flow and release of quality information and to ensure that this information is in line with our contractual obligations
- Produce technical information for company pre-qualification presentations.
- Attend presentations when required.
- Train and coach the on site management in design management techniques.
- Comply with the requirements of the company's Quality Procedure and Manual.
- Attend meetings as required at the site and area offices.
- Hold, chair and minute sub-contractor meetings.
- Prepare reports for site meeting with design team and attend same.
- Answer correspondence relative to the project as directed by your superior.
- Report contractual risk situations to your superior.
- All other duties as assigned to effectively carry out your role.

- With the Project Manager exercise a high level of control of the Project
- Aim for high productivity.
- Continuously assess non-productivity for reductions.
- Complete contracts on time.
- Strive to reduce costs and complete contract with budget.
- Maintain company profile on quality.
- Maintain excellent customer relations
Qualifications & Experience Required:-
- Previous experience in construction industry in a similar role.
- Ability to communicate with and influence designers, bid teams and Project Teams.
- Ability to convey necessary information to designers. Project Teams and control sub-contractors.
- Ability to convey necessary information to clients.
- A high level of Health and safety awareness.
What you'll need:
- Degree qualified preferably in a construction related subject
- Extensive experience in a Design Management role
- Membership of a professional body - CIOB, RIBA
- Proven experience of managing contractor design elements/ D&B works
